Children in Sport
Children in Sport is a program designed to ensure that children receive the most positive experience possible from sport. The focus of this program is on learning the fundamental skills before entering into more competitive sports and on providing an opportunity for children to have positive life-long experiences in sport. This program has a variety of resource materials including: A Resource Guide for Parents, An Orientation Guide for Sport Leaders, A Resource Manual for Sport Leaders, advertisements and posters. These sessions are great for both parents, coaches and anyone who may be interested in helping children grow through positive experiences in sport.
RespectED for Sport, Culture and Recreation
The Canadian Red Cross, Saskatchewan Parks and Recreation Association Inc., SaskCulture Inc., and Sask Sport Inc. today jointly announced the creation of RespectED for Sport, Culture and Recreation, a new initiative to build on and support current efforts by sport, culture and recreation groups to create and maintain safe environments for children and youth.
RespectED for Sport, Culture and Recreation brings the provincial associations governing sport, culture and recreation in Saskatchewan together with the Red Cross "RespectED: Violence and Abuse Prevention" program to achieve a common goal: Supporting Participation - Free from Abuse and Harassment. This goal will be achieved by offering a number of services to sport, culture and recreation members, including: education about abuse and harassment; support for leaders, coaches and instructors; assistance in developing and implementing abuse and harassment policies; and response procedures at the grassroots level.
A toll-free number, 1-866-773-5777, is available for sport, culture and recreation members and participants to call, either to obtain information about the project, or to seek advice and support when dealing with local abuse and harassment issues. Project Coordinator Bruce Wood will deliver the RespectED message of violence and abuse prevention to sport, culture and recreation members, boards and participants throughout Saskatchewan.
