2004 Winner of the Joe Griffiths Trophy!!
The Joe Griffiths Trophy was established in 1976 as an award to the zone showing the most improvement from final standings at previous Saskatchewan Games. Comparison is made on a winter-to-winter and summer-to-summer basis. The trophy's name honors an outstanding contributor to amateur sport in Saskatchewan.
Welsh-born Joe Griffiths immigrated to Canada in 1903 at the age of 18. Following the First World War, he "became the entire physical education department" at the University of Saskatchewan. During his 32 years there, he had a tremendous impact on amateur athletics. His excellent coaching skills led to participation in two Olympic Games as a Team Canada coach, and to many other sports honors. E.W. "Joe" Griffiths was installed in the Saskatchewan Sports Hall of Fame on May 22, 1967.
